Désormais Népès vivait nu dans la crypte, entouré de grappes d’animaux informes qui adhéraient aux parois ou pendaient du plafond, se liquéfiaient une goutte après l’autre et formaient au sol des flaques épaisses qui pullulaient de moucherons. Il méditait, à peine s’il respirait, ne se nourrissait plus. Les veines enveloppaient son corps comme un filet. Ses cheveux, ses poils, ses ongles poussaient, il ressemblait à Victor l’enfant sauvage retrouvé quarante ans trop tard.
La nuit du trente au trente et un novembre 201., le crapaud géant lui apparut une deuxième fois. Ils baisèrent.
